It has been a big couple of weeks in our household for car moves. Two weeks ago I posted that our !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! had made way for a brand new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Well I liked the 2.0 EcoBoost so much, we bought another one. Behold the 2014 Focus ST.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The only options checked off are package 201A/ST2 and a moonroof. For those unaware, if you get no other package on a Focus ST, get this one.
Audio System from Sony ® with 10 speakers including subwoofer
8" Screen
Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control
HD Radio™ technology
SiriusXM Satellite Radio with six-month subscription
RECARO ® Partial-Leather Seating
Sorry for the potato pics, I'll post up some better res shots of both cars together soon.
You may be curious about how major the household moves were? Or maybe you aren't. Some downsizing had to happen so to make room for the Focus, these two were traded in on the same deal. Thanks to Marc at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , it always helps to be in tight with the GM of a dealership.
Those of you who remember that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will notice the irony. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is now driving a blue Focus ST. I meant to reach out to him on email this weekend and let him know his former pony was moving on to a farm upstate, but I haven't had the chance. So if you are reading this, sorry, but she didn't make quite as good of a commuter as I had hoped. I'm too old for a really tight aftermarket suspension. Great car though, hope she gets a good owner.

The Surburban was a 2008 LTZ, very nice truck. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and it lost, but it was a good fight. We needed to trim our budget, legal bills are no joke (hello to my ex-wife if she is still stalking my Oppo account) and this deal did it quite well. We'll miss the utility, but at least for now we needed economy over size. Our savings calculations haven't even factored in gas mileage savings, which should be substantial considering the move from two V8s and an inefficient 2.5 V6 (22mpg avg.) and an hour commute each way.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So that's my story. I've only driven the Focus twice but I'm a big fan. The seats. Oh My God those seats. I reviewed them as " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! " at the DC auto show. And it's quick, feels as quick as the Mustang. Which makes sense at just over 3200lbs it has almost as much power and significantly less weight than my convertible. I haven't gotten much time to eval the handling, other than a couple of traffic circles in DC, but it feels quite good, and based on magazine reviews, likely is. Inside it's a nice place to be with push button start, the same touchscreen as the Fusion, and did I mention the seats? Worth the price of admission.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
More to come, figured I would post the preliminary news. Looking forward to maybe producing a quick comparo of the two or some sort of ecoboost challenge/race for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

I talked to my shipping guy, he doesn't deliver to 11743. Weird.

you love the Recaro's thats great but you see here is my dilemma with the recaro seats, I simply don't fit in them thanks to being 75lbs overweight(I know,I know, I should be doing something about that...get off my case already) and in Canada the Focus ST is only available with the Recaro seats. If we could get the Focus ST here with the standard cloth sport seats I would have bought one over the fusion 1.6L ecoboost. So now I get envious everytime I see a Focus ST Because that's what I wanted in the first place.

Across the street and after the traffic light is a gravel road with a big gate. If you manage to open the gate, you'll be driving towards the old Marlboro Motor Raceway. FYI.

I had no idea! I'll talk to Marc, they need to renovate that for customer test drives. There are two GT500s sitting over there I would like to try out.
Google Maps shows a very different scene now , very overgrown. :(
Fascinating Wiki entry, I have to find the owner and see if I can do an article on it.

Last I heard (or read) the asking price for the track/associated land was $3M, and there were environmental concerns with the Patuxent River being so close to the track. I've always thought if I became rich that I'd purhase and renovate the track.

Any idea who owns it? Is there a for sale sign out there? I'll have to drive by.
I can't afford it, but I'd love to go take a look.

Go find a dealer nearby that you like and have them find it. This one came from up in NJ somewhere. I just said I wanted one with the Recaros and a moonroof, done!

The address is 6000 Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro, MD. You can go into SDAT Real Property Search and get the name of the current owner. I'm sure you could track down a phone number for them (it's a unique name) and inquire about the property, which is apparently 42 acres.
WAIT! It might actually be for sale right now. It's listed in the 2 014 PG County Tax Sales listing with a value of $42,100 and back taxes of around $3,000 (edit - wrong tax amount)!! If this is true, I imagine you can place a bid next week or so for the property, pay the taxes and then become the owner of all 42 acres. Is there some way to get this on the front page? I'd love to see the track sold to someone with the intent of opening it back up.

There are a few nearby, ST3s at $25k. $24k seems to be the lowest locally, at least advertised price.

Excellent! I shared to Oppo and sent Patrick an email. As our resident DC ed. he could possibly bring this to light on the FP.

Zillow

Showing up as "not for sale" on most sites. Interesting that that Zillow states a $42K estimated value!

Sweet - I just emailed it over to tips@jalopnik.com. It would be awesome to see this on the FP.

Zillow has it listed at $42,100 because that is the total assessed value in SDAT. It's listed for tax sale by the county because the apparent owners haven't paid $3,000 in taxes. I'm hoping someone with tax auction knowledge drops in to explain the sales process.

Agreed, would be interesting. Curious if it was really sold for $11K last time? If so, I'll buy it. haha

Great car (I'm loving my ST3), kinda of odd, but I notive that the center console is different on your car than it is on mine.

Strange thing for them to have done IMO.

Possibly, and yes I've got the full leather and ST3 package on mine. I just find it odd that they would produce an entirely different trim piece like that.

I have a base model, no options '14 FoST (i.e. non-Recaro cloth seats) and it's like the second pic above... lengthwise cupholders ftw ;-)

Congrats! Got about 5400 miles on my no-options silver '14 FoST so far with no issues and lots of fun. Chose a base car mostly because my shoulders are too wide for the Recaros. But the base seats are comfy enough I guess. Anyway, enjoy!
